Using a Flex Pay Account is Smart

There is no doubt that healthcare is expensive. Whether it be the monthly premiums, the co-pays, the co-insurance or anything else that is happening, the fact is that health just gets more expensive and not less expensive. But you have to understand that while there is more than enough things taking money from you in the world of medicine, there are also some crafty ways to save a dollar without doing an auto refinance or giving up your house. With just a little research and good thinking you could have yourself in a flexible spending account in no time.

A flexible spending account is an account that you can get through your employer. The way it works is pretty simple. You set aside money for the next calendar year that you think you might spend on health and dental care. The list of this care can usually be found in the same brochure. You determine how much you are going to be spending on health care needs and then allot that money into a flexible spending account.

Then your employer is authorized, with the blessing of the federal government, to take out that money from your paycheck, tax free. This helps because the less money the government sees the less they can take from you. Then it is up to you to use it throughout the year on health and dental related items. Sometimes they give you a debit card while other times they have you fill out a reimbursement form where you have to submit a copy of the receipt.

Now there is something you should know about the flexible spending account. It is money that you can allocate for medical expenses but if you don’t use it at the end of the year, you lose it. So it is in your best interest to be as accurate as possible with your yearly estimations.
